Habitat for Humanity - Coastal Empire

Habitat Savannah
February 2010

 Valentine's Heart

Greetings!

Habitat Savannah will open a new ReStore in the McAlpin Square Shopping Center in the next couple of weeks.  This venture is a new direction for our 26 year old organization and one we have not entered lightly.  The opening of the ReStore will be the culmination of five years of research, planning and careful consideration by the Habitat Savannah Board of Directors, volunteers and staff.  We believe that the ReStore will enable us to increase our production of Habitat homes for Chatham County families at a time when our community has the greatest need.  With your help and support, we hope to double our production of affordable homes over the next few years.

Your patronage at the ReStore and your donation of time and inventory items will make this possible.  We need volunteers to work in the store and donations of new and gently used materials.  All proceeds from the ReStore sales will remain in Chatham County to build additional affordable homes.  Most of all, we need your prayers for the ministry of Habitat Savannah so that we can continue our life changing work here in Savannah.  May we count on you?

Executive Director

Family Update ~ by Stepheny Campbell, Programs Manager

The houses on Temple Street are progressing nicely and the families are working hard at both the job site and the ReStore to get their sweat equity hours in. To date we have over 1300 sweat equity hours donated by the program members and their helpers. Keep up the good work!

Habitat Savannah ReStore ~

by Charles Austin, ReStore Manager

We have been very busy getting the ReStore ready for opening day. We plan on opening in early March so keep checking our website and our FaceBook page for more information. If you have items to donate, please call the ReStore at (912) 655-3416.  All donations are tax deductible and you can avoid disposal fees and adding waste to landfills by donating to Habitat Savannah's ReStore.  Recycle your quality used building materials and help a great organization build more homes in Savannah for those in need.  Thank you for all your support and donations and we look forward to seeing you at the ReStore!

Volunteer Update ~ by Janet Johnston

We have had so many wonderful volunteers this year so far help us with the job sites and with the preparations for opening our ReStore. Special thanks to the students and faculty from SCAD who came out every Saturday in January to help us. A special thanks also goes out to members of the United States Marine Corps from Hunter Army Airfield who brought some really large equipment and trucks to help clear the lot on Temple for us. It was quite impressive. Thank you everyone!

 Subaru for Habitat

This is a buying program for all the Habitat for Humanity family.  Any friends or family members of anyone associated with Habitat for Humanity are eligible for this program.  We here at Chatham Parkway Subaru are committed to providing the best customer service combined with a quality product and the best price.

How this works:

Send us an email or phone call; describe what vehicle or vehicles you are interested in.

We will provide you with availability and pricing that has already been negotiated for you for the Habitat for Humanity program.

We will set a time at your pleasure to go on a test drive, or bring the vehicle to your home or work for you to look over.

We will offer you all current incentives and rebates that you qualify for.

We have a streamlined process for you to go through, so your time here at the dealership is minimal. We can also bring all paperwork to you so you don't have to come to the dealership.

Each vehicle purchased through this program, Habitat for Humanity will receive a donation from us in your name.

We also offer several other manufactures in our Pre-owned department.

We will also take in trades based on what the current market conditions are for that vehicle.

All Forester, Impreza, Impreza WRX, Legacy, Outback and Tribeca cars will be 3% over Dealer's invoice.

Construction Update ~ by Bruce Bissett, Construction Supervisor

Despite the cold and several rainy days construction on the two houses on Temple St. is progressing well.  Framing and the rough-in work for the HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems have been completed for the first house.  The framing for the second house will be completed in the next few days and we will then have the rough-in work accomplished.  At that point we will be ready for insulation and then sheetrock.  While that work is being accomplished on the inside we will focus on the exterior trim, soffit, and siding work.  By the middle of March we should be back inside getting the interior doors and trim installed and the painting done.
